Resources

Culture-Based Resources

Selected culture-based resources included here focus on connecting LGBTQ youth and families with organizations, events and activities that affirm ethnic, racial, spiritual and LGBTQ & Two Spirit identities. Currently, most of the culture-based resources that are available in the community were developed for adults and few were specifically developed for youth. This list includes culture-based resources for youth, together with general resources to provide information for youth & families, as well as access to culture-based community events and activities, including Pride events.

Evidence-Based Resources

The evidence-based resources included here were primarily developed by the Family Acceptance Project (FAP) and are rooted in FAP’s groundbreaking research with LGBTQ youth, young adults and families – the first of its kind. This research and guidance from the lived experiences of ethnically, racially and religiously diverse families with LGBTQ young people enabled FAP to develop the first evidence-based family support model to prevent health risks and promote well-being for LGBTQ children and youth and a series of educational materials for families, providers and religious leaders and resources being developed for LGBTQ youth.

Faith-Based Resources

Selected faith-based resources included here focus on connecting LGBTQ youth and families with affirming faith communities, resources, religious and spiritual leaders and places of worship. Some resources provide lists of affirming congregations across the U.S., and others provide access to fellowship, religious services, educational resources and spiritual guidance.

National Resources

Selected national resources included here help to provide peer and family support to reduce mental health risks, promote well-being and increase family and social support for LGBTQ young people. These resources include major national LGBTQ organizations that help families & youth to access school, community and family support. Other organizations that may provide some national services are included in the searchable map.
