Council for Exceptional Children [web resource]

CEC LogoThe Council for Exceptional Children is an international professional organization dedicated to improving the success of children and youth with disabilities and/or gifts and talents.

CEC develops standards, ethics and practices, and guidelines for educators, examines policy issues, and develops responses to those issues and influences local, state, provincial and federal legislation. CEC also monitors and makes recommendations for program regulations and funding.

CEC offers educators aids to assist them in providing special education services, including publications for new teachers, tools to use in the classroom, professional development offerings (may count toward professional development hours), and recommended resources for the families of children with exceptionalities.

Special Education topics covered on the CEC website includes information about the different exceptionality areas; international special education; hot topics in special education; and professional practice topics such as assessment, evidence-based practices and inclusion.
