Psychoeducational Evaluations

Do you suspect you have a learning difference?

Unpack your brain.

SLC psychoeducational evaluations serve as a powerful tool to help you understand how you think and learn. We can help you find the next steps to optimize your performance in the classroom and beyond.

NOTE: We provide evaluations or assessments for suspected learning disabilities or ADHD, or for those who need an updated evaluation for accommodations at school or standardized academic and professional exams. The SLC provides evaluations only to those who are experiencing academic difficulty and need documentation for accommodations.

What to Expect

The SLC offers two types of diagnostic evaluations.

Full Evaluation

  • A complete educational evaluation if you have never been formally diagnosed with a learning disability and/or ADHD
  • 6-8 hours with the SLC Assessment Psychologist over several sessions
  • Led by SLC Assessment Psychologist
  • Final feedback meeting and written report

Evaluation Update

  • An update to existing evaluation of a diagnosed learning disability and/or ADHD
  • 3-5 hours with the SLC Assessment Psychologist over several sessions
  • Led by SLC Assessment Psychologist
  • Final feedback meeting and written report

Our Evaluation Process

1. Meet with SLC Experts

SLC psychoeducational evaluations will begin with an in-person team meeting with your SLC Assessment Psychologist and SLC learning specialist. These meetings take 90 minutes.

2. Assess Gifts and Strengths

Then the Assessment Psychologist will begin testing to identify your gifts and strengths, locate areas to strengthen with a learning specialist, and recommend appropriate academic and test accommodations if you are diagnosed with a learning disability or ADHD.

3. Educational Evaluation Report and Feedback

The final feedback report will be delivered to the client within 6 weeks of the initial team intake meeting.

Waiting Times

The current wait time for psychoeducational evaluations is three to four weeks. Several factors may expedite anticipated wait times, including clients completing services, staff returning from family leave, new hires, etc. We encourage those who are interested to register and get on our waitlist. As we are able to increase capacity, we will schedule waitlisted clients according to registration date.

All SLC clients are encouraged to work with one of our expert learning specialists to develop strategies to optimize your performance in school and work while you wait for your educational evaluation. For questions about registration or anything else, please contact slc@chconline.org.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of evaluations are offered at the Schwab Learning Center?

The Schwab Learning Center offers psychoeducational evaluations for high school students, college students, and young adults who need help determining whether they have a learning disability or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

We also offer reevaluations for those individuals who have already been diagnosed with a learning disability or ADHD and need an update to their diagnosis and report.

What is the first step in receiving an evaluation?

What happens after I complete the registration form?

A team member will contact you to schedule a one-hour complimentary care consultation with a Learning Specialist. The goal of the care consultation is to determine eligibility and readiness for an SLC evaluation.

What does an evaluation entail?

  • Intake Meeting: Attend a 90-minute intake meeting (virtual or in-person) with our assessment psychologist. We’ll discuss the questions you want addressed during the evaluation, your presenting concerns, and your developmental, medical, family, and educational history.
  • Testing Sessions: Testing takes place over two to three 3-hour testing sessions. Testing is done in person with the assessment psychologist.  Sessions can be scheduled within the same week or in consecutive weeks.
  • Feedback Session: You’ll meet with the assessment psychologist and assigned Learning Specialist to review the results and recommendations. This session will be one hour long and conducted via Zoom.

Please note that due to California Board of Psychology restrictions, you must be physically located within the state of California for all meetings with the assessment psychologist.

When can I expect my finalized report?

Reports are typically sent within six weeks after your final testing session. Your report will be securely transmitted to you via encrypted email from CHC’s Medical Records department. Results will also be reviewed verbally during your final feedback session, which will take place approximately two weeks after testing is complete.

With whom should I share the final report?

  • Your school/university: The report serves as documentation of your diagnosis and includes recommendations based on test results. Many schools require a copy of the report to facilitate requests for academic accommodations. Ultimately, the determination of appropriate accommodations and modifications rests with you and your academic institution.
  • Your workplace
  • Your mental health practitioners (i.e., therapist, psychiatrist)
  • Your primary care physician or health care specialist
  • Your SLC Learning Specialist
