Chris Harris, Chief Schools Officer for CHC and the Interim head of Sand Hill School, has been honored with a Community Hero Award for his exemplary service as a professional educator who “has taken the extra steps in providing behavioral health services by going beyond his job description.”

In its ninth year, the Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Board’s Community Heroes Awards recognize community members and members of the SCC Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) who have exhibited exemplary service in the field of behavioral health or trained to identify and address the needs of people with mental illness while working in the field.

The criteria for an award includes demonstrating a commitment in the selected category, inspiring others to believe they can make a difference, engaging community members, and bridging differences among communities. Past honorees have included CEO’s, civic leaders who are now in elected office, educators from  local colleges and universities, and everyday heroes who volunteer or go the extra mile in their service.

“Let me express my gratitude and appreciation to all those on the nominating committee, Dr. Joan Baran for nominating me and to all my CHC colleagues who have been so supportive and instrumental in helping me build the Esther B. Clark School and now the Sand Hill School to the professional caliber we have attained, ” Harris said.
