As part of its ongoing Teen Mental Health Initiative, CHC has announced the expansion of affordable teen therapy services under the leadership of Dr. Lynette Hsu. Dr. Hsu’s work will focus on medication assessment and management with a strong focus on anxiety and depression. “We are extremely pleased to add Dr. Hsu to our team at CHC and to be able to provide specialized, affordable and accessible services for teens in our community,” says Dr. Ramsey Khasho, Director of The Center at CHC. “The need is great.” Call 650.688.3625 or visit careteam@stage.chconline.org.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Adolescent Health, one in five adolescents has a diagnosable mental disorder such as depression and/or anxiety disorders, yet less than half of adolescents with these disorders received any kind of treatment in the last year.
Mental health disorders can disrupt school performance, harm relationships, and can even lead to suicide (the second leading cause of death among adolescents). Effective treatments for mental health disorders, especially if they begin soon after symptoms appear, can help reduce the impact on an adolescent’s life.
Dr. Hsu is an experienced child psychiatrist and will lead a dedicated CHC team of experienced therapists, licensed psychologists and psychiatrists who specialize in working with teens. The team offers services that include individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and medication assessment and monitoring. Future plans for therapy include the addition of an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), a Parent Advice Line, virtual therapy and other options to increase accessibility. To make services more affordable for families where cost is a barrier, CHC offers financial adjustments and is actively fundraising to help offset some of these costs of services. CHC also offers a free 30minute Care Consultation option as a way for families to get started. 650.688.3625 or careteam@stage.chconline.org.
Dr. Khasho explains, “Adolescence is a time of change for teens. Upsets and mood shifts are normal, but chronic signs like these may indicate a teen might need to see a professional: an unexplained decline in school performance, difficulty with concentration, significant changes in sleeping or eating, fear and anxiety, withdrawing from friends and activities, angry outbursts, self-destructive behaviors or substance abuse. Therapy can help.”
Earlier this year, CHC launched the Teen Mental Health Initiative, aimed at creating a web of support services for teens and their families. The plan includes therapy, school partnerships and community engagement. To learn more visit /
