Dawn E. Newman, MEd
Teacher
After spending more than 30 years in the automotive industry, Dawn decided she wanted to engage in employment that gave back to the community. Having spent a number of years as adult literacy volunteer for the Partners in Reading program offered through the San Jose Public Library, the next natural progression was to substitute teach through several districts in the south San Jose area. She loved substitute teaching (true story!) and subsequently enrolled in SJSU’s combined Mild to Moderate Disabilities Special Education Credential/Master’s program. During a discussion with a classmate, Dawn found out about the unique population of students that EBC serves. One thing led to another, and Dawn became a middle school teacher at EBC and is contributing to and enjoying the increase in confidence, self-control and academic prowess students with emotional and behavioral disorders make while engaging with the positive and supportive EBC staff and services.
