Occupational Therapist
Bira started her career in Massachusetts working with children in the public school system with moderate to significant special needs. Her students were all in special day classes. She then transitioned to working at Boston Children’s Hospital with children with a wide variety of diagnoses and needs. After moving to the Bay Area, Bira spent a few years working at a private Occupational Therapy clinic and then transitioned to a large hospital setting, still with a focus on working with children with developmental diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Disorders, as well as children who had no formal diagnosis but who struggled in an area in which Occupational Therapy intervention could make meaningful changes in the ease of participating in desired activities, whether they were related to difficulties in motor coordination or sensory processing, or oftentimes in both areas. Bira truly enjoys understanding the challenges that families see as obstacles to joyful engagement in activities, and in partnering with families to eliminate or ease those obstacles. She seeks to infuse therapy with lightheartedness and have children experience surmountable challenges with greater ease. There is nothing as satisfying as watching a child’s wonder when they grasp something that they had felt was out of their reach. Occupational Therapy is all about lighting that path for the child and the family.
