Alexa is a Learning Specialist with an extensive background in behavioral psychology (Applied Behavioral Analysis). In 2013, Alexa started her career as an in-home behavioral interventionist during her senior year at the University of San Diego. In her first role as a teacher, she joined forces with an interdisciplinary team of occupational and speech therapists to help start an accredited school for students with special needs from 2014 until 2017. During her time at the Helix School in Marin County, she dedicated her time to implementing evidence-based curriculums such as Lindamood Bell (visualizing verbalizing) and Making Math Real. Upon completing her Master’s of Education: Curriculum & Instruction (Applied Behavioral Analysis) in 2017, she shifted away from her special needs classroom and into a classroom of students with language-based learning differences. After receiving the Tattum Reading Program training and teaching at the Sterne School in San Francisco, she discovered a deep, life-long passion for understanding dyslexia and the teaching methods necessary for students with language-based learning differences including ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, slow processing disorder, and auditory processing disorder.
