In 2014, more than 6.5 million children in the United States between the ages of 3 and 21 received special education services. On this episode of School’s In hosted by GSE Dean Dan Schwartz and Senior Lecturer Denise Pope, Elizabeth Kozleski, the dean’s senior scholar for teaching and learning at the Stanford Graduate School of Education, discusses how schools approach educating students with learning differences, and talks about the laws and policies that govern those efforts. Kozleski explains what “response to intervention” means, and why it’s important for children to receive special education in the general education classroom.
