The SEL @ Home video collection from PBS Learning Media was created to help parents and caregivers by increasing your understanding of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and offering real-world examples of how you can help your children develop SEL skills while at home.

SEL @ Home Video Collection

In An Introduction to SEL @ Home, learn the basics of Social and Emotional Learning and how parents can support their child’s SEL growth at home.

In Self-Awareness and Self-Management,  explore how a better understanding of their own feelings and experiences can help children have better control of their actions. Parents will learn how to help their child become more aware of their emotions, their strengths and weaknesses, and what makes them an individual. That increased awareness will help them better manage their behavior and interactions with others.

In Social Awareness and Relationship Skills, discover how taking the time to better understand the needs and perspectives of others helps your child be part of a larger community. Humans are social creatures, so understanding and empathizing with others is an important part of developing relationships. As a child’s first teacher, parents have a unique opportunity to help their child explore their role in a larger world.

And finally, Responsible Decision-Making explores what is involved in responsible decision-making and how parents can support their child’s development through everyday interactions at home. The ability to make safe, ethical and responsible decisions is considered by many to be the capstone to SEL and the successful application of the previous four competencies: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, and Relationship Skills.
