American Foundation for Suicide PreventionAmerican Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a national-scope not-for-profit organization dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy.

AFSP raises awareness and provides resources and aid to those affected by suicide by focusing on five key areas:

  • Funding scientific research
  • Offering educational programs for professionals
  • Educating the public about mood disorders and suicide prevention
  • Promoting policies and legislation that impact suicide and prevention
  • Providing programs and resources for survivors of suicide loss and people at risk, and involve them in the work of the Foundation

You can learn more about AFSP’s mission and history, and view resources, including warning signs and risk factors for suicide, suicide facts and statistics, and treatment options on the AFSP website (https://afsp.org/).

You may also be interested in becoming an AFSP Field Advocate. Field Advocates are volunteers who have agreed to build relationships with their members of Congress and state legislators to prevent suicide.
